4 Essential Things to Bring on a Boat Tour

If you're looking for a fun day out on the waters of Collingwood, then there's a good chance that you would enjoy a boat tour. They're not only a great way to see the beautiful sights, but you can also learn a little about the local history and culture along the way. However, before you go, it's important to make sure you pack the right things to make your experience as enjoyable as possible. Here are 4 essential items that you should bring on your next boat tour!

1) Sunscreen

While some boats do offer covered seating (like the Huronic!), you may not want to hide in the shade during the whole tour. Especially if it's a beautiful sunny day! Therefore, it's essential to bring along some sunscreen to protect your skin from the harmful UV rays.

You may be thinking: a boat tour is usually only about an hour or two. I'll be fine without sunscreen for such a short time! But even if you're only out in the sun for a short period of time, it's still important to apply sunscreen to exposed skin. The reflection off the water can actually intensify the UV rays, so it's better to be safe than sorry.

2) A Hat and/or Sunglasses

In addition to sunscreen, another good way to protect yourself from the sun is by wearing a hat and/or sunglasses. Not only will this help keep the sun out of your eyes, but it will also help shade your face (and other exposed skin).

Now, you're not going to want any old hat or sunglasses. Make sure to bring ones that you actually enjoy wearing and won't mind having on your head for a few hours. And if you're going to be out in the sun for an extended period of time (like on a longer boat tour or day trip), then consider investing in a good pair of polarized sunglasses. They'll help reduce the glare from the sun and water, making it much easier to see.

3) A Waterproof Camera

One of the best things about being on a boat is that you never know what you're going to see. From fish to birds to animals wandering around the edge of the water, there's always the potential for some amazing wildlife sightings. And of course, you're going to want to document these memories!

However, regular cameras are not built to withstand the elements. If it gets too wet, there's a good chance that your camera will stop working (or worse, be ruined completely). To avoid this, make sure to bring along a waterproof camera so you can take all the photos and videos you want without having to worry about them getting damaged.

4) A Jacket or Sweater

Even if you're taking a boat tour during the summer months, it's always a good idea to bring along a jacket or sweater. The temperature on the water can be quite cool, especially if there's a breeze. And while the boat may have some covered areas, you'll still want to have something to keep you warm in case you end up spending more time in the open air than you anticipated.

The Bottom Line

A boat tour is a great way to spend a day, but there are some things you'll need to bring along to make sure you have the best possible experience. So before you set sail, make sure you've got sunscreen, a hat and/or sunglasses, a waterproof camera, and a jacket or sweater. With these items, you'll be prepared for anything and can just sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride!
